{"id":338,"date":"2015-09-16T13:25:05","date_gmt":"2015-09-16T17:25:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.psu-ftlauderdale.com\/blog\/?p=338"},"modified":"2015-09-16T13:25:05","modified_gmt":"2015-09-16T17:25:05","slug":"autographed-franco-harris-football","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.psu-ftlauderdale.com\/blog\/?p=338","title":{"rendered":"Autographed Franco Harris Football"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We were fortunate to have Franco Harris sign a football for us when he was a guest of the Palm Beach Chapter.\u00a0 The football will be auctioned off and the proceeds will benefit the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chapter\u2019s Scholarship fund.\u00a0 We are accepting silent bids at <a href=\"mailto:silentauction@psu-ftlauderdale.com\">silentauction@psu-ftlauderdale.com<\/a>.\u00a0 The opening bid is $100.\u00a0 The silent auction will continue until October 17, 2015.\u00a0 As the bidding goes on, the high bids will be posted on Facebook and will be shown on Chapter emails.\u00a0 The bidding will go live during half-time of the Ohio State game on October 17 at the World Famous Parrot Lounge.\u00a0 You do not have to be present to win.<\/p>\n<p>Franco Harris graduated from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rancocas_Valley_Regional_High_School\">Rancocas Valley Regional High School<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mount_Holly_Township,_New_Jersey\">Mount Holly Township, New Jersey<\/a> and then attended Penn State. While playing for the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Penn_State_Nittany_Lions_football\">Nittany Lions<\/a>, he amassed 1,359 yards rushing (21st in PSU history) with 14 touchdowns and averaged over 5 yards per carry, while also catching 29 passes for 358 yards and another touchdown. He led the team in scoring in 1970. In the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1972_NFL_Draft\">1972 NFL Draft<\/a> he was picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round, the 13th selection overall. He was inducted into the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pro_Football_Hall_of_Fame\">Pro Football Hall of Fame<\/a> in 1990.
