Sunday, October 16, 2011 – Big Ten Golf Tournament- Deer Creek Golf Course, Deerfield Beach- 1pm Shotgun. The format will be “scramble” so everyone can play.  Wear your colors; bring your banners and anything that you’d like to add to the atmosphere. Golf is $45, including gratuities.  The BBQ chicken n’ ribs buffet, with all the trimmings, is $32, for a total of $77.  There will be raffles, 50/50 and prizes given out at dinner too. The Nittany Lions won, 41-24, on Nov. 20, 2010 at FedEx Field to take a 14-0 series advantage. Penn State is playing in Bloomington for the first time since posting a 36-31 win on Oct. 20, 2007. The Hoosiers visit Happy Valley on Nov. 17, 2012.

Penn State visits Indiana to begin its 19th season of Big Ten Conference competition. The Nittany Lions and Hoosiers are in the Leaders Division and will play annually. The teams have met 14 times since Penn State joined the Big Ten in 1993, including each of the last four years. The Nittany Lions are coming off a 34-6 win over Eastern Michigan, as Penn State threw for 364 yards and limited the Eagles to just 68 rushing yards, 221 yards below their season average. Indiana scored 21 points in the fourth quarter, but fell just short in a 24-21 setback at North Texas last Saturday. Penn State has a 61-20 (75.3) record since the start of the 2005 season, tied with Oregon for the nation’s 11th-best winning percentage over the past seven seasons.

PATERNO’S 700TH GAME ON PENN STATE STAFF
The Indiana game will mark Penn State’s 700th game since Joe Paterno joined the Nittany Lions’ coaching staff in 1950. Paterno followed Rip Engle, his head coach at Brown University, to State College when Engle was named the Nittany Lions’ head coach in 1950. Paterno was an assistant coach for 16 seasons, was promoted to head coach in 1966 and is in his 46th season leading Penn State. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2007. Since 1950, Penn State has earned a 508-184-7 record, with its 73.2 winning percentage good for No. 3 in the nation over the past 62 seasons.

Kevin Wilson is in his first season as head coach of the Hoosiers. He was a member of the Oklahoma coaching staff from 2002-10, serving as offensive coordinator and helping the Sooners play in seven Big 12 title games. Wilson was offensive coordinator at Northwestern from 1999-2001, facing Penn State once, a 38-35 Nittany Lion win in 2001.

Wilson earned degrees from the University of North Carolina in 1984 and ‘87.

Kevin Wilson will coach in his Big Ten debut when Indiana hosts Penn State in the conference opener for both teams. A week after claiming his first victory at IU, a 38-21 win over South Carolina State, Wilson’s Hoosiers scored 21 points in the fourth quarter but fell to North Texas, 24-21, last week. The Hoosiers piled up 354 passing yards but the

Mean Green posted 226 rushing yards. The game featured a combined 831 yards of offense, five touchdown passes, and just two punts. The Indiana offense, which averages 413.8 yards per game, is led by quarterback Edward Wright-Baker. The sophomore is completing 62 percent of his passes (80 of 129) and has thrown for 925 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. headlines the IU receiving corps. An honorable mention All-Big Ten selection in 2010, the senior has a team-high 14 catches for 190 yards and one touchdown. Kofi Hughes (13-204-2), Dre Muhammad (13-14-0), and Duwyce Wilson (12-161-2) also have  double digit receptions. Hughes and Wilson lead Indiana with two touchdown receptions.

Freshmen running backs D’Angelo Roberts (41-187-1 TD) and Matt Perez (43-132-4 TD) have nearly evenly split the bulk of the carries in the Hoosier rushing attack. Senior linebacker Jeff Thomas tops IU with 31 tackles and four tackles for loss. Senior safety Chris Adkins has 30 hits (19 solo) and senior safety Jarrell Drane has 27 stops, with a forced fumble and fumble recovery. Sophomore cornerback Greg Heban has a team-high two interceptions in addition to four passes defensed, two pass break-ups, and 21 total tackles. Redshirt sophomore Mitch Ewald handles the kicking duties for Indiana. He has connected on 4-of-6 field goals, with a long of 49 yards, and is a perfect

14-for-14 on PATs. Junior punter Adam Pines is averaging 38.5 yards per kick.

The parking lot directly north of the Parrot is no longer available. If you are unable to find a meter spot in the immediate area the following are suggested alternatives:

1.      Residents of Fort Lauderdale can get a pass to park on A1A north of Sunrise Blvd for $6.00 per year. Go to www.fortlauderdale.gov/parking for the details. If you don’t qualify for a resident pass you can still park in this area till 3 a.m. at the regular hourly rate.

2.      Parking is available at the B Ocean Hotel directly across from The Parrot for $10.00. Valet only. Enter off Sunrise Blvd into the front of the hotel.

3.      Parking is available at Birch State Park for $6.00 all day, from 8 a.m. til Dusk. It is a very short walk. Gates close promptly so don’t be late.

4.      Parking at the Gallery 1 on the West Side of the Sunrise Bridge is $13.00 valet only (plenty of available spots) and walk across the bridge. It only takes a few minutes

5.      Park at the Galleria Mall and walk across the bridge. It only takes a few minutes.
