Many current students and alumni are trying to spread the word regarding a petition to have the field at Beaver Stadium named as “Paterno Field at Beaver Stadium.” Apparently many news stations have already indicated that they will be following the progress of this petition.
According to the Patriot News, Thomas Beaver III, who is the great-grandson of James A. Beaver, “thinks it is a wonderful idea” to have a petition in support of naming the field at Beaver Stadium “Paterno Field”. He told the Patriot News that his family is fully supportive of this goal, which would honor both the Beaver name and the Paterno name.
As of this posting there are already over 15,000 signatures on the petition, but that number could grow exponentially if only we could get the word out. The goal is to hit 107,282 signatures, in other words, to “fill the stadium for Joe.” By signing the petition we might be able to truly honor the man who means so much to our community.
